Audit log and history
What the audit log records when someone changes a record, where to see an item's history and the project Activity feed, the recycle bin, and what's Planned.
On this page
When someone creates, edits or changes the status of a record on a supported tool, the app writes an audit event: who did it, what changed (before and after, field by field) and when. Those events power each item’s history and the project Activity feed.
What gets recorded
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Record | RFI #31, punch item #112, change event #9 |
| Action | Created, Updated, Deleted, Status Changed, Commented, Restored, Distributed, Attached, Workflow Response |
| Before and after | Due date from one value to another, status from Open to Closed |
| Who | The person who made the change |
| When | Timestamp |
| Summary | A one-line description of what happened |
Reads are not logged.
Which tools record history
- Project management and field: RFIs, Punch List, Observations, Inspections, Incidents, Meetings, Forms, Correspondence, Coordination Issues and Transmittals.
- Financials: Change Events.
- Project setup: changes in the project’s Admin tool and in Directory.
Other financial tools keep their own records instead: budget modifications, budget snapshots and locks, and the status trail of change orders and commitments. Wiring them into the same audit log is Planned.
Item history
Open a record and look for its history section: a list of every recorded change with who made it, when, and the old and new values. On the sample project, an RFI’s history shows when it was opened, each change to its due date or assignee, each response and when it closed.
The Activity feed
The project’s Activity tool lists recent changes across the project’s tools, newest first. Filter it by Item Type, Person and Action. It only shows changes to records you’re allowed to see. Activity is a core tool, so it can’t be turned off.
The same feed is available over the API at /rest/v1.0/projects/{project_id}/activities. See the developer docs.
Nothing is silently overwritten
- Edits keep the original. On tools that record history, the before value stays in the item’s history.
- Deleted items go to the recycle bin. Most project tools have a Recycle Bin view, where you can restore an item. Restores are logged too.
- Budgets can be locked, so line items and modifications can’t change, and a budget snapshot keeps a frozen copy you can compare with today.
Company Accounting supports reversing journal entries, period close controls and authorized reopening. Project history and company accounting permissions are separate.
Agent actions (Planned)
AI agents aren’t in the app yet. When they ship, each proposal and the person’s decision on it will be logged. See Approvals and audit trail.
Export
Read the Activity feed over the API. A CSV export of the full audit log is Planned. For everything else you can export today, see Export to CSV and PDF. The audit trail glossary entry covers why history matters for owners, lenders and auditors.
