Accounting overview
Company accounting, its relationship to project financials, and the workflows currently available.
Partly in the app today. Items marked Planned are not built yet.
Accounting is the company-level workspace for your books. Financials is the project-level workspace for the budget, contracts, commitments, change orders, direct costs and payment applications on a particular job. They have separate navigation, scopes and permissions.
Open Accounting from the company app launcher or /companies/{company_id}/accounting. Project Financials tools are accessed inside a project. A company can contain multiple projects and accounting entities; access to one does not automatically grant access to the other.
Company accounting workflows
- General ledger: chart of accounts, journal entry approval, posting and reversal, fiscal periods and reports. General ledger
- Payables: bills, approvals, payments and retainage. Accounts payable
- Receivables: customer invoices, receipt allocations and source-owned corrections. Accounts receivable
- Banking, payroll and assets: bank reconciliation, pay runs, fixed asset workflows and ASC 842 lessee leases. Banking, Payroll, Fixed assets, Leases
- Close and reporting: financial statements and independently reviewed close checklists. A missing required reconciliation remains unavailable rather than passing automatically. Close, Reports
- Imports: reviewed, bounded CSV journal and opening-balance imports. Integrations
Accounting entries can carry project and cost-code dimensions, and supported postings create job-cost records. Project records and accounting records have distinct workflows: do not assume that every project payment application, budget change or cash entry automatically posts to the ledger. Review each workflow and its source links.
Supporting documents
Journal entries, bills, vendors, AR invoices, AR receipts and bank transactions have an Attachments panel on their detail page: attach the vendor invoice PDF, accrual backup, check image, certificate of insurance or lien waiver. Anyone who can view the record can list and download its files; attaching needs the record’s entry permission (for example, AP entry for a bill) and access to its entity. Attaching is allowed after posting, because a file is not ledger data, and each attachment is recorded in the record’s audit trail. Attachments cannot be edited or deleted. Through the API, use GET or POST .../attachments under the record (vendor compliance records and lien waivers included) and GET .../accounting/attachments/{id} to download.
Boundaries and access
Company Accounting uses company accounting permissions and optional entity restrictions; project Financials uses project permissions. Accounting grants are separate from project tool access. Posted entries are corrected through supported reversal or adjustment workflows, not by editing posted journal lines.
Historical AR reconciliation and full project-to-accounting billing bridges are not complete. The close checklist reports missing required coverage. Review the accounting controls and setup guide before beginning.
Company accounting endpoints use /rest/v1.0/companies/{company_id}/accounting/.... Project financial endpoints use /rest/v1.0/projects/{project_id}/...; see the developer docs for their respective contracts.
