How to use it

Using the inspection checklist starter pack

  1. Copy the checklist that matches the work and delete items that don’t apply. Add the items your specs, drawings and inspector care about.
  2. Inspect before you call for the official inspection, with the responsible trade present if you can.
  3. Answer every item: Pass, Fail or N/A. A blank is not a pass.
  4. For every failure, write what is wrong, take a photo and name who will fix it by when.
  5. Re-inspect the failed items only, then sign and date the sheet.
  6. Keep the signed sheet with the day’s log: it is part of the job’s quality record.

In os.construction

Do this in os.construction instead of a spreadsheet

The Inspections tool in os.construction runs this as a template: sections and items with Pass/Fail, Yes/No, text or number responses, and an option to require a photo or an observation when an item fails. Inspections can recur daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. A failed item creates a linked observation, which converts to a punch item, and signing an inspection locks its responses.

FAQ

Questions about the inspection checklist starter pack

Is this checklist enough to pass an authority inspection?

No. It is a starter for your own quality checks. Your drawings, specifications, the adopted code and the authority having jurisdiction decide what is required; add their items to the list.

What is the difference between Fail and N/A?

Fail means the item applies and is not acceptable yet. N/A means the item does not apply to this location. Keeping them separate stops “not checked” from hiding as “fine”.

What happens to a failed item?

It needs a record with an owner and a date. In os.construction a failed item creates an observation, and an observation can be converted to a punch item that is tracked to closed.

Can I schedule repeat inspections?

On paper, add a date column. In os.construction an inspection can recur daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or quarterly, and Generate next occurrence creates the next one.

Can I reuse a checklist across projects in os.construction?

Templates are per project today.
