Illustrative defaults, not a benchmark: 140 open items, 12 new a week, 38 closed a week, a 5-week target. Replace them with your own counts.

Method

How this is calculated

The list shrinks each week by what you close minus what new walks add. The calculator assumes both rates hold steady, so it is a check on pace, not a schedule.

Net per week = closed per week − new per week
Weeks to clear = open items ÷ net per week (never, if net ≤ 0)
Close rate needed = open items ÷ weeks to target + new per week

Reading the result

If new items arrive as fast as you close them, the list never clears, however hard the trades work. Look first at why items are still being added (late walks, rework) and at items sitting in "ready for review": a trade has said they're done and nobody has checked.

Many contracts tie some retainage to punch completion. Your contract decides how much and when; the retainage calculator does that math. For the list itself, use the punch list template.

Stop re-keying the numbers behind this math.
