Method

How this is calculated

Turnaround is counted from the date an RFI was sent to the date it was answered: calendar days by default, or Monday to Friday if you tick working days (holidays aren't removed). Open RFIs are aged to the "as of" date.

Turnaround = date answered − date sent
Within the period = answered RFIs with turnaround ≤ period ÷ answered RFIs
Open and late = open RFIs older than the period on the "as of" date

Why the median

One RFI that sat for six weeks pulls the average up. The median is the turnaround of the middle RFI, so it shows what a typical answer takes; the average and the longest show the tail. There's no industry figure here to compare against: compare against your own contract period, and against your previous jobs.

What to do with it

Bring the open-and-late list to the weekly meeting, by ball in court. Slow answers often start with vague questions: the RFI writing checklist covers what to put in one.
